1 Charged, 2 Others Sought in Robbery at Premium Wines

There is an update to the brazen robbery of Premium Wines on Newtown Barracks last Friday.  More than fifty-four thousand dollars in cash were stolen from the business by three armed masked men, who entered the business just after ten a.m.  Three customers were relieved of their phones before the thieves escaped with the loot.  Surveillance cameras captured the robbery in progress and on Monday, eighteen-year-old Everal Sambula of Ordonez Avenue was arrested and charged for four counts of robbery; no money or property was recovered. Two other persons are being sought.

“They spoke to the manager, Miss Maria Price, who reported to the police that whilst they were inside the establishment along with customers, three male persons entered the establishment and held them up at gunpoint. During the robbery, one of the male persons pointed a firearm at the customers and the persons working and they went away with three cell phones and a total amount of fifty-seven thousand dollars worth in cash or Belize dollars; it was six thousand three hundred U.S. and forty-one thousand two hundred in Belize money and the total value of the phones was about two thousand eight hundred dollars, making it a total fifty-seven thousand dollars.”

“These gentlemen did not look like business professionals or anyone who appeared to want to make a business transaction at a Premium Wines and Spirit location. Are you able to say under what circumstances were they buzzed in?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“What happen is that a customer was just about to enter the business when the three persons ran behind the customer; as soon as the door was open, they barged into the building.”

Reporter

“Are you able to say if it is what would be called a criminal; that they happened to be there when this knapsack with money was about to go to the bank or are you also looking at the possibility that they may have had inside information of the movement of the company’s money?”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“What we understand is that that amount of money was sales from the weekend that they had done in the districts and the money had just been brought to the main office which is located there and they were about to do the deposit on that day of the weekend sales. There is nothing up to now to indicate that it has something to do with an inside job.”
