Police Say Man Succumbs After He Accidentally Shoots Himself

A death investigation is ongoing in the western village of Georgeville, Cayo District. On Monday evening, police responded to a shooting at mile one on the Mountain Pine Ridge Road in the village. Forty-two-year-old Daniel Alford Senior had been shot to the left side of the abdomen. He was taken to the San Ignacio Community Hospital but hours later, he succumbed to his injuries while receiving treatment. According to police, the Alford, who is a security guard by profession, was out hunting for peccary with two minors, one of whom is his son. Alford Senior was carrying a licensed shotgun when the firearm accidentally fell and discharged as Alford Senior was climbing a hilly area. Today, News Five spoke with father of the deceased, Antonio Alford about the tragic incident.

I know that he work and I noh know if maybe somebody ambush ahn or I noh know but I just…lot ah thing go through my mind. Because I just know that da wahn, he noh look for trouble and them things. From ah know ahn…he work for some security—I noh even know which security company.”


The weapon and the empty cartridge case are in possession of the police.
