National Bank Manager says Customer’s monies and records are safe

According to Young, if she did not keep her own records she would have had to pay a loan of fourteen percent. Young was given a bill of fifteen thousand dollars for late fees which she says are incorrect because she has all the receipts of her monthly payments.

“When I paid the six thousand, six hundred and eighty eight dollars in December 2016 they told me that my loan was up to date. When I check my statement, that payment was not applied to my loan until February 2017. So I want to know who is paying for those interest because they are charging me everything, claiming that I am late on my payments and that is incorrect. So that is why I am here today. The only reason that I found out all of this was happening is because I have a vehicle here. It was a student loan and a vehicle loan. I need to sell the vehicle because I plan to live in Jamaica. So I emailed the bank and I asked them to provide me with a payout figure. When they sent me the payout figure I said no this is incorrect. This must be wrong. I contacted them back only for an officer of the bank to tell me that the  monies that I have been paying every month they have applied it to the student loan, basically to compensate for the six months of payment that they cannot find while I was employed at the bank. I am frustrated and this is my last resort because I had been working with them for three and a half years. Every time an office leaves the bank I have to start at ground zero again. This time I got enough and I think the Belizean public deserves to know and they should go to the bank and request a statement.  They should keep their receipts because it is very important. If I did not have proof I would have had to pay a loan at fourteen percent while I was working at the bank which was the only benefit that was afforded to me while working there. The receipts are written on paper. It is a national bank. They should have system generated receipts. They are not keeping records because if I had to show you my records what does that say?”

 

News Five got in contact with the General Manager of the National Bank of Belize, Alvaro Alamina, who explained that it is the bank’s policy not to discuss the private affairs of a customer. Alamina stressed that the National Bank of Belize is a responsible bank where a customer’s monies and records are safe. He said that any customer who is experiencing issues with the bank is free to stop by and have the matter resolved.
