Godwin Hulse

Chairman of the Sugar Control Production Committee, Doctor Carlos Itza, no longer holds the post of Sugar Cane Specialist and Sugar Cane Technical Assistant with the Sugar Industry Control Board. He was given his marching papers last week and was told that his contract will not be renewed because his post has become redundant. Prior to his dismissal, Doctor Itza had come forward alleging mismanagement S.I.C.B which is chaired by Gabriel Martinez. Doctor Itza had expressed concerns over S.I.C.B. financial status, saying that millions of dollars are being mismanaged. On Friday Minister of Agriculture, Godwin Hulse, told News Five that while Doctor Itza’s allegations are being investigated, evidence of mismanagement has not been discovered as yet.

Godwin Hulse, Minister of Agriculture

“His contract is up. I mean he was in contract. It will not be renewed. That is the decision of the S.I.C.B.”

“Is it a loss to the industry?”

Godwin Hulse

“It is not a loss to the industry. His services were well valued but there is succession, good succession in the department.”

“He has claimed gross mismanagement, lack of reporting and lack of financial reports; things that have to do with matter of cane farmers. You would have expected that he would not have that type of criticism of bodies with which he works with.”

Godwin Hulse

“Ministry is looking into it.”

“Will there be any reprimand of Mr. Osorio if…?”

Godwin Hulse

“We do not want to get it personal at this time. This is a personal thing that has been going on between those gentlemen for a long time and we really do not want to get into that. We will look into the facts and make a determination.”

Hipolito Novelo

“Have you found any evidence of mismanagement as he alleges?”

Godwin Hulse

“We haven’t yet. As I said, the ministry will look into it and when we do we will let you know.”

Doctor Itza is seeking legal advice.
