Georgeville Man Stabbed Multiple Times

Marvin Givarra

There were two unrelated stabbing incidents in the west over the weekend that occurred within minutes of each other and in separate villages along with George Price Highway. Both victims are currently hospitalized in stable condition at the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan and police have since detained one of the suspects and are looking for two others in connection with the stabbings.  The first incident, and more serious of the two, occurred around twelve-thirty on Saturday morning at a bar in Georgeville, Cayo, where twenty-nine-year-old Marvin Givarra was stabbed multiple times in the back, puncturing one of his lungs. News Five’s Duane Moody headed west today and files this report.

Twenty-nine-year-old Marvin Givarra lives with his family in the new site area of Georgeville. On Friday night, Givarra went partying with his relatives and friends here at Al’s Hyde Away Bar, just off the George Price Highway in the village. But around twelve-thirty a.m., an argument ensued between Givarra and Leryl Smith, a twenty-three-year-old firefighter who also resides in Georgeville. That argument quickly escalated to a fight where a knife was introduced and used to stab Givarra four times; twice each to either side of his back, puncturing his left lung. The incident occurred in front of a number of patrons at the local pub and within minutes Givarra was being rushed in the pan of a pickup truck to the Western Regional Hospital in Belmopan for urgent medical attention.
