Israeli Training to Build Trust through Community Outreach

The idea of strengthening the substance of the department through community outreach, says Aragon, is a necessary means of fortifying those with shared interests within the society.  That, according to the Minister of State, begins with building trust.

“The neighborhood patrol officer, backed by the police organization, and community members help to mobilize support and resources to solve problems and enhance the residents’ quality of life.  It is important for community members to voice their concerns, contribute advice and take action to address concerns, creating a constructive partnership is not easy and will require the energy, creativity, understanding and patience of all involved.  Reinvigorating communities is essential if we as a nation are to deter crime and create more peaceful neighborhoods.  It will take time to breakdown barriers of apathy and mistrusts so that meaningful partnerships can be forged.  Trust is the value that underlies and links the components of community partnership and problem solving.  The Belize Police Department needs a foundation of trust which will allow police to form close relationships with the community that will produce solid achievements.”

 

Protesters on Tuesday came out against the training on the basis that the Israeli military has been killing Palestinian civilians and because the longstanding alliance with Guatemala.
