U.S. Chargé d’ Affaires Adrienne Galanek Prepares to Conclude her Mission in Belize

Adrienne Galanek

Chargé d’ Affaires at the U.S. Embassy in Belmopan, Adrienne Galanek, leaves Belize in mid-July. Galanek first came to Belize back in 2015 as the Deputy Chief of Mission and after the departure of Ambassador Carlos Moreno at the end of the Obama Administration, she took over as the Chargé d’ Affaires in January of last year.  The U.S. Embassy remains without an ambassador since President Donald Trump assumed office and Galanek’s replacement will be at the rank of Chargé, even though Belize has an ambassador in Washington.  Today, Galanek reflected on her time in Belize.

Adrienne Galanek, Chargé d’ Affaires, U.S. Embassy

“Belize is such a jewel, in so many different ways. For me the biggest, brightest part of the jewel are the people. You all have touched me personally and in so many different ways with all the work and the leadership that people across Belize have shown in so many areas. I really appreciate the friendships across the political spectrum, across government and across the people of Belize and civil society sector. I really leave Belize with a heavy heart and I know all the work that we do in partnership with the Government and people of Belize will continue very much into the future for years to come. I drink the water. I drink a lot of the water, so I am sure that I will be back in some personal capacity. But for me, I return back to Washington to the State Department to work there. Yes there has been a replacement and he will be coming on the ground shortly right after me.”
