Diesel Price Hiked, but G.O.B. Says Decreases Are on the Way

An eighth price hike since the start of the year is coming, but only for diesel oil as confirmed by the Government of Belize this evening.  As of midnight, diesel oil will cost ten dollars and ninety-seven cents, an increase of thirty-four cents, in Belize City. Prices will be slightly higher in the districts due to internal freight charges. A graphic from the Belize Bureau of Standards shows an increase of eighty nine cents for kerosene, but the Ministry of Finance says this has been rescinded. There will be no change in price for either regular or premium gasoline, both of which are selling for near eleven dollars. The ministry attributes the diesel hike to a lagged effect on domestic prices from the recent spike in the world oil prices. But there appears to be good news as world oil prices have begun to trend downwards and according to government, it is certain that lower prices at the pump will arrive with the next fuel shipment.
