4, including Police Man, Caught in Heavy Weed Bust

Braiden Robateau

A sizeable drug bust over the weekend has resulted in the arrest of a police officer in the Orange Walk District.  Twenty-two-year-old Braiden Robateau is assigned to the San Ignacio police formation, but on Saturday afternoon he was all the way in Santa Cruz Village with a group of men hauling a load of marijuana.  They were busted during a sting operation after law enforcement had been tipped off that a suspicious vehicle was traversing the area.  When the vehicle was cut off in the vicinity of San Antonio, the men attempted to flee the scene, leaving behind two hundred and twenty-four pounds of weed.  They didn’t get too far.  Harvey, Windell and David Trapp, all residents of the Cayo District, were busted.  PC Robateau was able to flee his pursuers, but not for long.  Today, Inspector Wilfredo Ferrufino provided more details on the marijuana bust and the arrest of one of their own.

“On June second, sometime around 12:40 p.m., police received, or there was a joint operation by customs, B.D.F. and police from Orange Walk.  They had received information that there was a vehicle in the Santa Cruz area, a white vehicle suspected to have illegal drugs.  As a result, an operation was launched and the vehicle was intercepted somewhere between Santa Cruz and San Antonio.  Upon the officers intercepting the vehicle, the drivers and one of the occupants fled, leaving three other occupants in the vehicle.  Those three were detained, the vehicle was searched and six parcels of suspected marijuana were retrieved from that vehicle.  It amounted to ten thousand, six hundred and fifty-three grams or two hundred and twenty-four point four pounds of marijuana.  Those persons along with, whose names are Harvey Trapp, a twenty-five-year-old of Santa Elena, Windell Trapp, a twenty-seven-year-old of Esperanza and David Trapp, a carpenter of Esperanza Village, were detained.  Somewhere out of San Antonio Village a fourth individual who had fled the vehicle was detained.  That individual was identified as Brayden Robateau, a twenty-two-year-old police officer attached to the San Ignacio formation.  All four individuals were detained and they have been charged for drug trafficking.”

“Will there be any disciplinary action against the officer?”

Insp. Wilfredo Ferrufino

“Yes, of course.  That is in process as we speak.”
