Bulgarian Paid Cash Bail on Theft Charge

Vasil Kadalov

Supreme Court Justice Colin Williams today offered bail to a Bulgarian national accused of theft of funds through an automated teller machine. Vasil Kadalov made bail of seven thousand five hundred dollars this afternoon after he was wired the funds by Western Union. Caye Caulker resident Donald Stuart, the complainant, told police in April that he checked his Atlantic Bank account and noticed that two thousand dollars was missing.  He visited the bank’s location to check into his account and was presented with evidence of two withdrawals from the bank, of a thousand dollars each, which Stuart says he never made.  There is no indication of how the withdrawals were made or the relationship between the men. Kadalov’s attorney Ronell Gonzalez successfully persuaded Justice Williams to grant bail even though the prosecution argued that he is a flight risk because he has no ties to Belize and was here on vacation. Gonzalez also presented a statement from Stuart indicating that his money was replaced through credit card insurance. The court ordered that the bail must be paid entirely in cash and the funds reached Belize this afternoon. Kadalov next appears in court on June sixth.
