Paul Thompson Counts on Support from Albert Residents, Cordel Hyde

Paul Thompson

Paul Thompson is going head to head with fellow Senator Valerie Woods, who has prided herself as being born and raised in the division. But Thompson says he has been putting in the work on the ground with residents for two decades and wants another shot at Tracey Taegar Panton at the next general election. Woods has released an advertisement in which Lake Independence area representative, P.U.P. national deputy leader and long-time friend Cordel Hyde is heard endorsing her. Thompson, however, says he is also counting on that key endorsement.

Senator Paul Thompson, P.U.P. Aspirant, Albert Division

“I was a bit surprised because in the most recent City Council elections I was the campaign manager for that and we won a sensational victory in the City Council elections. So I was a bit surprised, because by being the campaign manager, I had to take care of ten divisions – distributing shirts, paraphernalia, coming up with concepts, coming up with making ads, deploying campaigners – so I had to take care of the other divisions as well as the Albert Division, because I’m a team player and I’m working for the P.U.P. to win the next election and that’s how I think. I’m a team player. Now, it’s a democracy and everybody has the right to run and challenge so I welcome this challenge.”

“I think you have a couple weeks before the election – how are you campaigning and do you have the support of your good friend the area rep from lake Independence and other Belize City hopefuls?”

Paul Thompson

“The campaigning has been going very well, I must say – overwhelmingly, I must say. I have been working in the Albert Division since 1995 – that’s two decades, so I have a relationship with the people. In terms of the Deputy Party Leader, he’s behind me one hundred percent; he’s in my corner, and he will make that statement shortly, that he’s in my corner.”

The convention for the Albert Division takes place on June seventeenth.
