Plant World Nursery to Stabilize Citrus Industry

The citrus industry continues to face turbulence, having to deal with HLB disease and low production at the factory.  But there is a glimmer of hope for the Citrus Growers Association which has its eyes set on pineapple production as a means of realizing additional revenue.  Citrus Products of Belize Limited, in which CGA is a majority shareholder, has committed to ramping up its production of pineapple juice and according to CGA’s Henry Anderson, the sale of pineapple seeds through Plant World Nursery will also help to stabilize the industry in years to come.

“CPBL is scaling up its pineapple production.  The board has already voted to buy a new machine to have that installed and commissioned for next year when the processing season starts.  Why June next year?  Because the pineapples will be going in June or July next year, as that equipment will require around eight hundred and eighty acres of pineapple to go and we doing seventy here for Plant World.  CGA is looking to do an additional thirty, but that’s CGA, totally separate.  So what we’re working here, obviously if this, as I said, if you do your sensitivity analysis, we went on the low end.  If you cut into this further it’s still a profitable deal and it’s something that puts Plant World on its two legs for forever and CGA to start getting on its two legs.”

“This, however is for the twelve year cycle that you mentioned, right?”

Henry Anderson

“Yes, it’s for twelve years.”
