City Admin Plans Lawsuit over Suspension

Candice Miller

City Administrator Candice Miller, we understand, is preparing to file suit against the Belize City Council, challenging her suspension from her duties. Miller was sent home on April fifth on a month’s suspension after being accused of dereliction of fiduciary duty. An ongoing investigation turned up transactions considered questionable, including a bill for food and drinks at a nearby Chinese restaurant from City Hall run up by former employee Joe Bradley which has not been paid. But Miller denies authorizing payment of Bradley’s bill. We are told that Miller’s attorneys have written City Hall demanding her suspension be lifted pending legal action as of Monday. Mayor Bernard Wagner was out of office today and did not respond to our calls seeking comment tonight. But it may get trickier for Miller because there are reports that she could be facing termination from her post when she returns from her suspension.

  1. Timber says:

Well Ms. Miller, I empathize with your plight, but at the same token, you became a victim of your own circumstances. Here’s why I said that, Darryl should be the one you hold accountable and I hope he’s representing you for free. I want you all to follow my logic; THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY HE SHOULD HAVE RENEWED YOURS OR ANY OTHER CONTRACTS IN THAT CITY COUNCIL KNOWING IT WAS AN ELECTION YEAR. THAT IS TANTAMOUNT TO CONFLICT OF INTEREST AND CORRUPTION. Secondly, that with RJB Construction, that he gave for four years to renovate city streets, if one looks deep enough they’d see what I’m alluding to. You made those payments like any other person in public office would do, knowing the political climate in Belize, where if you don’t adhere to what they say, you’re in danger of losing your job. None of you in public office have the gall to stand up to outright corruption due to a culture that has been cultivated for years. Your other dilema young lady, if my sources served me right, you’re in the process of constructing a mansion, which, anyone with any financial sense and knowledge of business acumen and real estate knowledge, knows that at 12% interest rate at the financial institutions, you cannot sustain that payment, unless you got a sweetheart deal or hustlings will enable you to keep it. I’m just being upfront and direct. So, to the financial institution who authorized a loan of this magnitude, another bad loan on your books and these are they type of actions which cripple a small economy like Belize. I digress and wish you the best.
