Patrick Faber Explains Why He Has Not Been Acting for P.M.

Patrick Faber

For a second time in a few weeks, Corozal North Area Representative Hugo Patt has been named Acting Prime Minister.  The appointment comes in the absences of Prime Minister Barrow and Deputy Prime Minister Faber who have both been out of the country on official business.  Earlier today, we asked the DPM about the prime minister’s decision and whether there has been a fallout between the two.

Patrick Faber, Deputy Prime Minister

“I have been out of the country.  I left just about, I think on Holy Thursday or the Easter break.  I have spent a week with my boys who are on spring break in the United States and subsequent to that I was on official business in the Dominican Republic attending a SICA meeting which is a meeting of ministers of education and culture.  After I concluded the meetings there I was invited by the Vice President of the Dominican Republic to sit in a two-day session where I represented Belize along with other vice presidents of the Central American region, the vice presidents of Honduras and Panama, the DR.  We were at a meeting together where I participated in a round table discussion for a wider audience for social action in our respective communities.  I have been out, that is simply the case.  I returned to the country yesterday and I will leave again tomorrow because I am going on an official visit to South Korea, not North Korea, South Korea, where I will spend a few days as a guest of the South Korean government.  So that is the only reason I have not been asked by the prime minister, as far as I know, to be acting in his absence. I can assure you, the relationship between the prime minister and I are, I mean it’s very, very good.  I’ve gotten a number of messages asking me what is going on.”

“Is there a rift between you and prime minister?”

Patrick Faber

“None at all, none at all.”
