Rural Area Man Struck by Vehicle

Christian Charles

Twenty-six-year-old Christian Charles is clinging to life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital after he was knocked down and left for dead in a case of hit and run. Swanka, as he was affectionately known to family and friends, was walking home after a night of partying in Ladyville when sometime after three a.m. on Sunday, near the Burrell Boom Bridge, he was hit by a vehicle whose driver did not stop to render assistance. Charles sustained severe head and body injuries and wasn’t discovered until three hours later, around six a.m., by a vehicle traveling into the village. The family is looking for answers because the prognosis is not good and police have not contacted the family.

Orvin Haylock, Brother of Accident Victim

“My brother is lying here in a coma now with severe injury. He has a broken hand, eight broken ribs, his pelvic area is broken, he has a broken foot; he has a concussion in his head and I don’t know if he is going to survive. Right now we are asking for the public to please give us some information so that we can find out who did it. We no vex with the person, we just want him to come forward so we can know because accidents do happen. We want him to come forward so that we can know what to do from there. This happened in Burrell Boom Village say about two hundred yards off the Boom Bridge on the river side area. When they found him, according to information we gathered, no police even gone and process the scene, up to now. We are trying to pray for him because the doctor said it is a ninety-nine percent change he might not live. But all we are asking for is if people can come and donate blood for my brother. My brother needs fifteen pints plus more just to start with and if he pulls through, it will be a miracle for us and for everybody that knows my brother. My brother is a very loving person; when he goes out to party, everybody enjoys themselves because he is around. Everybody knows who is Christian; his nickname is Swanka and anybody who know him by his correct name know him as Swanka.”

Anyone who would like to assist the family either with information or with blood donation, please contact Orvin Haylock at 622-1232 or Kay Pook at 624-6649.
