Hail Storm Overruns Crique Jute, Toledo

On Tuesday, a freak storm hit Crique Jute (hoo-te) Village in southern Belize around three-thirty in the afternoon. It was approximately thirty minutes of hail and what residents say were winds of about thirty to forty miles per hour. Huge trees were taken down blocking pathways to houses and destroying several farms in the village, located eighteen miles from Punta Gorda. At least three houses and a shop were damaged by the storm and representatives from the PG branch of NEMO have been on the ground assisting the residents who were affected. The intensity of the storm was a first experience for the villagers who are trying literally to put the pieces back together.
