Ladyville Man in Coma after Stabbing

Douglas Bowen

There were no murders recorded this weekend. But in Ladyville, there was an almost fatal stabbing. Douglas Bowen is tonight hospitalized at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital in an induced coma following an incident in the Japan area.  Bowen was stabbed on Sunday night after a basketball game. Police say, however, that Bowen does not wish to press charges and as a result an official report has not been made. The alleged perpetrator was also injured during the altercation. News Five’s Duane Moody reports.

Douglas Bowen is in an induced coma at the K.H.M.H. and has been placed on a ventilator as he recovers from multiple stab wounds and cut injuries to the legs and hands. Bowen, a resident of Japan area in Ladyville, was reportedly stabbed following a basketball game on Sunday night. Police responded to the scene shortly after and transported Bowen first to the B.D.F. hospital before he was taken to the K.H.M.H.

“When I found out what happened this morning was off of a simple basketball game in Ladyville last night. A simple basketball game. And what hurt we is because my cousin no fool with people. “He was stabbed multiple times?”

Adrianne Garnett

“Yes. I think in the upper body and in his foot also.”

But Bowen has opted not to press charges, as we were informed by police and the alleged perpetrator, identified only as Blair, had been detained but was released from custody. News Five also understands that according to a preliminary report made by Blair, Bowen had aggressed and stabbed him multiple times to the arm and in self defense; he inflicted the stab injuries to Bowen.  But Bowen’s family says he is not a troublemaker; Adrianne Garnett says they are trying to understand how this could have happened.

“Now the person that stabbed him, does the family know him?”

Adrianne Garnett

“I noh really sure. To be honest, I no really know. I no sure. He dah wah family man. He dah from work to home and whenever he see fi he family, he always deh deh fi he family. He dah always wah kind person weh go all out fi people. So I noh know why dehn have to take it to this level.”
