Richard McDonald Pursues Criminal, Legal Action

Richard McDonald

McDonald was detained and the senior officer indicated he would be booked for committing a mischievous act. But when he went to court the following Monday, officials there told him no charges had been made out for him and advised that he go on about his business until they had. As of news time tonight, there had been none. McDonald was taken to hospital immediately after the incident and went back a week later complaining of chest pains, but doctors ruled that it was not life-threatening. Still at a loss as to why he was attacked, McDonald says that though he is in fear of his life, he intends to seek justice.

“At this point, had you ever met this senior officer before? Had you any altercation with him previously?”

“No, sir; none whatsoever.”

Aaron Humes

“And as far as you know, you hadn’t said anything to this officer, done anything to this officer that would make him beat you the way you said he did?”

Richard McDonald

“None whatsoever. I was just there standing, waiting to hear [about] my friend; I wasn’t even making noise in the station, not even a bad word, nothing like that.”

Aaron Humes

“And you don’t know if this man was under the influence of anything or whatever the case may be?”

Richard McDonald

“I can’t say that, because I don’t know the officer; I just know he’s a senior officer. I watched his clothes; he had on a khaki pants with a t-shirt, he wasn’t even fully dressed.”

Aaron Humes

“And what has the Professional Standards Branch said about your case?”

Richard McDonald

“When I went there, I asked them about the situation. They told me I had to make a report. But since it’s a senior officer, that report would have to go to the Commissioner of Police, and he would decide if the officer was to be charged. Up to date I haven’t gotten any word from the Police Department; none whatsoever. So a week and a half ago, I went and I saw a lawyer, waited some more, and so today I brought it to the media.”
