Walk to Raise Funds for Kidney Association

It’s that time of the year again. The Kidney Association of Belize is officially announcing its upcoming annual kidney walk and health fair, set for the third and ninth of March, respectively. High blood pressure and diabetes are the main causes of chronic kidney disease and with a population that is generally overweight; there are concerns for the health of the kidney. The initiatives promote education about the harmful consequences of obesity and its association with kidney disease, while advocating for a healthy lifestyle. Association President Oscar Itch spoke to News Five today about the fourth annual walk, which begins at five-thirty at the ITVET in Belize City.

“We commence at the ITVET compound then into Freetown Road, Princess Margaret Drive then into Barrack Road, then Marine Parade, down Taiwan Street, North Front Street into Queen Street, Daly Street, Craig Street, Barrack road and back into Freetown Road and end at ITVET compound. We will have some fruits to give away after the walk. And of course we’ll have several fabulous prizes to give away just by registration. As long as you register, after the walk…I think we have about fifteen prizes from different businesses to give away.”

“Now sir is the walk a fundraiser?”

Oscar Itch

“We do the fundraising by the selling of T-shirt. So persons who participate in the walk are asked to purchase a T-shirt for twenty dollars. The raffle is basically free, just a dollar registration and you can actually win yourself a fabulous prize.”
