Johnny B.: “We Will Fight Everywhere” for Municipals

John Briceño

The P.U.P. is counting on the surge of energy presented on Sunday to prevail less than a month from now. But with the U.D.P. already boasting of sweeping all sixty-seven seats including Party leader John Briceño’s native Orange Walk Town, where does the Opposition think they have a chance? Briceño was not cowed, placing great faith in the teams in Belize City and along the western corridor to pull the massive upset. He also promises that the P.U.P. will show its intent on nomination day, February twenty-first.

John Briceño, P.U.P. Leader

“Obviously, Belize City is the battleground. The U.D.P. has concentrated its war chest in Belize City, especially in the Southside. But right now, our deputy leader Cordel Hyde has a plan where we are strengthening the Southside of Belize City, and because we have good candidates we believe we can do well. The same thing we are seeing in San Pedro and in Belmopan and San Ignacio/Santa Elena and Benque. As I said, we in the P.U.P., we fight everywhere. I don’t care if that’s your stronghold, we are going to go and we are going to fight, and we are going to do the best we can, and at the end of the day it’s for the people to decide who they want to manage their municipalities on the seventh of March, 2018. Do you think we can beat this? (Gestures, laughing). We have demonstrated the support that we have and the excitement that we’re generating. For the nomination day of course we are going to take out people, those who want to come out. But again, for us it’s a ground war, that is why we have to concentrate, to make sure that we have the campaigners, that we have the proper organization to win the next elections.”
