Operation ACT Continues; Cameras on the Watch

Allen Whylie

So what is the fate of Operation ACT now that a National Crime Fighting Strategy has been introduced which will remain in effect for the next two years?  The campaign has been ongoing since late October and while it covers three specific hotspots in Belize City, it has also expanded to other areas of the country.  According to ComPol Whylie, ACT will continue well into the New Year and will run concurrently with the new crime fighting strategy.

Allen Whylie, Commissioner of Police

“It’s still in effect; the officers are out on a daily basis.  As we indicated, this plan brings a structured approach in terms of our crime fighting.  Operation ACT will continue because that is the operational focus.  They will also continue to target the gangs, the gang members, the other criminals who are involved in other things, they will continue to target those persons involved in the movement of drugs and the sale of guns.  So that activity will continue as this plan indicates.  So that will not be subsumed by this plan, but that will continue… It’s a tool… We have other operations taking place aside from ACT as we speak.  We’ve actually done the launch of the camera system.  There’s, I believe about, there are sixteen more that were recently installed in Belize City and so that camera project is an ongoing project.  There is no timeline in terms of when it will finish.  Is it moving fast enough for my satisfaction?  No, because I would love to say that in three months time the CABEI process will be completed and you will have that next hundred.  That is out of my control.  What I will continue to do is to push for the business community to come onboard and sign up so that we can expand this project.”

To start police departement have to fire 3/4 of thier corrupted officers. since taking bullets shells as prove of crime puts the reputation of law abiding citizens on the hands of corrupted officers which can easy swich shells and incriminate good people as they wish.
