How and Where Your Candidates Will Be Nominated

The Elections and Boundaries Department has released the particulars for the next pit-stop in the race to March seventh. In our previous newscasts, we have showed you most of the aspirants for political office in the nine municipalities, but they are not candidates unless and until they have visited the returning officers in each municipality on February twenty-first, deposited fifty dollars and given their formal consent to be nominated along with the names of two other electors in their municipality who have agreed to propose their names in nomination. The nine returning officers are the designated chief administrators of the elections and are responsible for supervising all other electoral officials including election clerks, presiding officers, poll clerks and counting clerks. The senior public officers who have been tasked with the job this time around are as follows. In Belize City, it is Comptroller of Customs and Excise Colin Griffith, stationed at the Charles Hyde Administration Building. One of his senior officers, Benedict Palacio, has been handed the job in Belmopan. He will be stationed at the Belmopan Civic Centre. Supervisor of Insurance Alma Gomez will take nominations in Corozal Town at the Administration Building; Hugo Miranda will do the same at the Sub-Treasury office on Hospital Crescent in Orange Walk Town. Andre Cho has the honors in the Twin Towns at the Administration Building; Catherine Cumberbatch will be on Ambergris Caye at San Pedro’s Town Hall, and Marcelo Windsor will be in charge in Benque Viejo at their Town Hall. Rounding out the slate are Martin Alegria in Dangriga at the Town Hall and Miriam Codd in Punta Gorda at the Administration Building.
