Family Gives Blessing to Independent Investigation; Police Getting Assistance

Jose Luis Espat

According to Espat, he has the blessing of Pollard’s family to proceed with an independent investigation into the disappearance of their loved one.  Whatever he is able to unearth from his probe is shared with the police department for officers to follow up on all leads.

Jose Luis Espat, Concerned Citizen

“I am not in the system anymore but I have decided to use my knowledge and my experience to help in any way I can.  Whatever I have I give to them and that’s their job to capitalize on whatever they have.  So they know what they need to do.”

“Without divulging too much, my understanding is that there are a series of telephone recordings, in respect of the material that you have handed over to the police department.  Can you share with us passingly what perhaps the content is?”

Jose Luis Espat

“Well I can’t discuss the details, you know.  It is true that there are certain recordings as a part of the evidence that I’ve forwarded to the police.  I make it clear that at no time has the police department or myself, as one of the investigators in this case, made any public statements with evidence or findings that Mr. Pollard has been killed.  At this point, Mr. Pollard is still missing.  There is no notion to believe that he’s killed, with evidence and according to what one of the recordings suggests it states and uses the word killed, along with other factors of that recording which I cannot divulge.  It is strong evidence that there is some sort of involvement.”

“Do you have any sanction or permission from Mr. Pollard’s family for you to embark on your own investigation as to what may have led to his disappearance?”

Jose Luis Espat

“Full support.  I have the full support of the family.  The family is a bit scared and I don’t blame them, they don’t want to come forward personally, but I’ve met with at least one member of that family that is willing to cooperate and I am fully supporting them.  I fully support any Belizean that needs this help.”

Mark Pollard was well known for his community involvement, as well as his participation in the annual carnival season.
