When is a Murder, Murder?

Wilfred Elrington

Minister Wilfred Elrington has also weighed in on the Fareed Ahmad homicide investigation.  He reiterates what the lead investigator for the Professional Standards Branch indicated on Tuesday, that there is no evidence to suggest that other police officers were involved in the Ahmad’s murder. As for the troubling messages that were allegedly sent to members of the Ahmad family, Elrington says that nothing is being left to chance.

Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Home Affairs

“There is nothing to suggest, no evidence which the police has to suggest, apart from some emails, which could well be fake emails, whatever it is, but we are not speculating on that.  They are not leaving anything to chance.  But the record we have dated the fourth of January, as I have shown you, does not suggest that the police department has any complicity in this incident. Could I also take this opportunity to make one clarification?  The fact that people are found dead, as a result of violent activity, does not necessarily mean that they were murdered.  Murder has a very specific connotation in law and people could get killed in consequence of actions by others where they are defending themselves, or people could die in consequence of suicide, you know.  So it is not correct to suggest that every violent death is a murder.  I think what would be more proper is to use the expression that people seem to have died from violent means, but to conclude that it is a murder, to my mind, I’m not sure whether that is proper. From what I have seen of the evidence, it was a matter of a judgment call for the D.P.P., you know.  I’m told that no statement was given but there was other circumstantial evidence which could have led the people in the D.P.P.’s office to give that instruction, you know.”

This is the most stupid minister Belize has had. It is clear who killed Ahmad, the thing is to find who ordered it and who all are involved. Who gave the order. Why have the PC who killed him haven’t said nothing. She must have gotten instructions not to talk. People are not stupid Mr. Minister.
