WPC Brown Also Disciplinary Charged

On the night of December twenty-seventh, WPC Brown reportedly signed off from duty at the Raccoon Street Police Station around eight p.m. and is said to have departed the compound with her service weapon.  That firearm, a Bersa brand nine millimeter handgun, as it turns out, was to have been delivered to her superior.  When the pistol was not handed over, several attempts were then made to locate Brown, to no avail.  The weapon would not be located until the National Fire Service was summoned to the Queen Street precinct to assist with cutting open the mangled vehicular wreck using the Jaws of Life.  The department-issued firearm and matching rounds of ammunition, as well as two spent nine millimeter shells, were recovered from the vestiges of the BMW on Friday morning.  According to ACP Williams, that was enough proof for them to proceed with charges against the disgraced officer.

“We have also obtained information or statements from the officer who is in charge of her team to the effect as to why she was in possession of the firearm while she was off-duty.  In his statement, he has outlined that after reporting off duty she disappeared.  He tried calling her several times to get her to come in and hand over the firearm and she did not answer her phone, hence the reason why she was in possession of that firearm.  The matter, I know for a fact that there are several theories out there, but I want to remind the Belizean public that we cannot take theories to court without evidence.  People have a lot to say but as a department it is our duty to investigate and we can only go where the evidence is taking us.  I am satisfied that we have sufficient to have charged her for the murder.  It is not the end of the investigation, yes to be able to make the case more airtight there are certain things that we need to do, one of which would be to apply to the court through the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions for the phone records of both individuals, the W, as well as that of Fareed.  I believe that their phone records will be critical in ascertaining a motive, as well as to tell us why she was in that vehicle with him at that time of the night.  So that is where we are now in respect of that investigation.”

“You mentioned that you are satisfied that the evidence gathered so far has basically incriminated Ms. Brown as the suspect.  Can you speak to whether or not the ballistics test to confirm that the spent shells that were found inside the vehicle were indeed rounds that were fired from her service weapon or were they rounds belonging to that particular cartridge?”

“That is one of the requests that we have made to the National Forensics Science Service as it relates to the ballistic testing, for them to ascertain whether or not it was her issued firearm that discharged those two expended shells that were found in the vehicle.  But I will also tell you that the officer who issued her the firearm on that day in question submitted his report and stated that she was issued with the nine millimeter pistol and fifteen live rounds of ammunition.  Her firearm was found with thirteen live rounds and the two expended shells were found in the vehicle.  We are presuming and hoping that it would be confirmed by ballistics that the two expended shells will make up for the two that are missing from her firearm.”
