Ahmads Ask for Independent Investigation into Murder of Fareed

Taheera Ahmad

While police offered details of their investigation this morning, two of the Ahmad siblings, Taheera and Abdul, flanked by the leader of the Muslim Community, Kaleem El-Amin, their father Abdus Ahmad and attorney Dickie Bradley, made known their views on Fareed’s murder this afternoon. Expressing gratitude for the support they have been receiving in their quest for justice, the family says there are three issues that the public must know.  The first was a request to the Prime Minister:

Taheera Ahmad, Sister of Deceased

“To the leader of this country, we are asking for an independent investigation into the murder of Fareed Ahmad. We are asking for this because it is an outright conflict of interest for the police to investigate its own, especially in a matter of this magnitude and under the circumstances. We are asking for this because more than five days after the murder, family members and work colleagues who worked up to two hours before Fareed’s demise have not even been contacted or interviewed. His own wife who said Fareed called her less than an hour before this incident asking her to prepare some food; she has not even been interviewed. We are asking for this because yes, there is a question of competence and trust and justifiably, the citizens of this country will always harbor suspicions about this investigation. Secondly, we are asking for an immediate investigation into the mandate, the operation and the scope of this SAT Team. It is imperative; it is in the interest of justice, transparency and public confidence that this matter be looked into. It is not only coincidental that the commander of this unit is involved in ongoing instances with our family. Fareed’s complaint that same morning of his demise was about this SAT Team. The female charged and who was in the vehicle along with Fareed was a member of the team. Fareed made mention of names such as Nah and Itza, persons we don’t know. Please know that not a single member of our family has ever been arrested or convicted of any crime. But the only criminal instance that we have had is a family raid, led by Commander Vidal, in which Fareed was given a drug charge, a case which was immediately dismissed by the courts. And finally, our family continues to be surveilled. Our family continues to receive threats on our lives; in fact, we have already made detailed reports to the police department about concerns for our safety and for our lives.”
