Crime Update: Arrests Made for Incidents across the Country

Several arrests have been made in a string of crimes that have been committed across the country over the past three weeks.  In the case of the theft of copper wire in the Corozal District, police have arrested and charged Brian Hyde in connection with that incident in San Joaquin Village.  He is also the prime suspect in a shooting that happened in Belmopan over the Christmas weekend near the Governor General’s Field.  During that ordeal Jose Najera was injured when Hyde allegedly opened fire on him while he was seated inside a vehicle.  If that wasn’t enough, he is also wanted for the murder of Errol Gabourel in Roaring Creek last Wednesday.  Aside from Hyde’s arrest, police have also made progress in identifying and charging the owner of a sports utility vehicle found with a quantity of cocaine at the northern border in early December.  The drugs were stashed inside a Lincoln Navigator that attempted to evade Mexican authorities at the Santa Elena border crossing.

“In regards to updates, one Brian Hyde has since been arrested and charged for the theft of copper wire from the Smart Tower in San Joaquin Village.  This person, after appearing before the court today, will be transported to Belmopan where he will be charged for the shooting of Jose Najera that had occurred early last week.  Also, police have arrested and charged one Dimas Zelaya for the robbery of the one mile gas station in Corozal and also the Toyota Tacoma pickup that was stolen has since been recovered.  Police are also in the process of charging one Robert Gentle in reference to the discovery of a vehicle that had crashed into the customs compound that was found with drugs some two or three weeks ago.”

“My first question since we are on the matter of updates.  The last press brief we were told that the individual in custody, in respect of the Smart copper wire theft would also be the individual wanted for questioning the Gabourel murder…”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“He will be the subject of that investigation as well.”

Isani Cayetano

“So we have him on Najera, but he’s also the suspect in the Gabourel murder.”

ACP Joseph Myvett

“Yes.”

The lifeless body of Errol Gabourel was found floating along the river in Roaring Creek last Wednesday with a single gunshot wound to the head.
