2 Non-Fatal Shootings over the Weekend

Alejandro Cowo

Twenty-nine-year-old Charles Fortune is recovering from a gunshot wound to the right knee after being injured on Monday night by an unidentified assailant who opened fire on him on Ebony Street.  He told Belize City police that he was seated inside a vehicle when he heard shots being fired.  Fortune realized shortly afterwards that he had been shot.  While he was being attended to at the K.H.M.H., doctors were also busy treating Tevin Cacho for injuries he received during a vehicular shootout along the Boom Road on New Year’s Day.  Ladyville police, according to ASP Alejandro Cowo, have detained two men for questioning.

“We had two shooting incidents, one here in Belize City and one in Ladyville.  Sometime last night, police responded to a shooting incident at Ebony Street and as a result they visited the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where they observed a male person by the name of Charles Fortune with a gunshot injury to his right knee.  Initial investigation reveals that he was inside of a vehicle that was on the bridge on Ebony Street when shots were heard and as a result he noticed that he was injured.  He is presently admitted at the K.H.M.H. in a stable condition at this moment.  So far nobody has been detained for that incident. We had the incident yesterday at Burrell Boom where one Camilla Terry reported that she was driving on the Boom Road along with two other male persons when she observed that they were being followed by a gold in color vehicle.  As a result of that she heard several shots being fired.  She took cover of herself and the other person inside of the vehicle and as a result she managed to reach the Ladyville Police Station where she made a report.  Also she was informed that other male persons had received injuries who were coming behind her vehicle in another separate vehicle.  The male person was taken to the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital where he was attended to and given medical attention.  His name was learned to be Tevin Cacho.  At this moment he has been treated and discharged from the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.  We have two persons detained and in custody at this moment and are being questioned by Ladyville police.”
