…police giving away hampers in Northside…

Not to be outdone by its social partners, the Belize Police Department is also busy handling its share of gift giving.  From Secret Santa to hampers for the needy, the men and women of law enforcement are hitting the streets hard this week.  Earlier today, we followed several north side cops as they covered the West Landivar and Belama neighborhoods distributing food baskets to select residents who have been identified as disadvantaged.  The joy of giving, says Inspector Amilcar Milian, brings a sense of fulfillment to officers involved in community policing.

Insp. Amilcar Milian

, Deputy O.C., Precinct 4

“Every year the police department is engaged in giving back to the community.  The community policing officers are engaged in identifying the needy persons in the area of responsibility in which after identifying them we always give back to them in a way that we show our appreciation to the public, right.  We always have this working relationship with the public and in an effort to recognize that, every year we make efforts, including our police officers working within Precinct Four.  We also ask for donations so that we could have this event become a reality.”

“What are some of the items being distributed today?”

Insp. Amilcar Milian

“Actually we have sugar, some groceries like chicken sausages and household items that they probably need; food containers and things like that.”

“How many persons or households are being identified in this area?”

Insp. Amilcar Milian

“Presently we are distributing nineteen [hampers] but we are planning to do this every month after this month, but we’ll continue with that in January and February also.”

The initiative continues on Thursday and Friday in other areas of Belize City.
