P.S.U. Comes Out Swinging Against ‘Dastardly’ Auditor General

The Public Service Union has come out strongly against Auditor General Dorothy Bradley and what it calls her “dastardly administrative practices.” On Friday, Prime Minister Dean Barrow confirmed that he had been aware of the constant stream of complaints from employees at the Supreme Audit Institution against Bradley, resulting in a sick-out, and said he was not quite sure where his power on the matter stood as the Audit Institution is nominally independent of the Government of Belize. The Union confirms that it has spent as much as two years addressing complaints ranging from eroding the performance appraisal system to falsely accusing fellow officers before police and misleading the Public Services Commission. The P.S.U. demands an independent investigation of the degree of mistreatment of complaining officers and for the Ministry of the Public Service to stop being ‘complicit’ in the condoning of infractions of the Public Service Regulations and policies governing public officers. Examples of the Auditor General’s alleged high-handed ways have been leaked out to News Five and tonight we show you one example. It is a letter from Bradley to Financial Secretary Joseph Waight, talking about her dissatisfaction with the Public Services Commission in a disciplinary case against a junior officer and apparently making light of that person’s illness and absence from work. The P.S.U. also claims officers have been overlooked for vacant posts because they clash with the Auditor General’s management style and says it condemns her attempts to place malice against her own colleagues.
