Accused Murderer of Felix Ayuso Nabbed in Mexico

Vildo Westby & Felix Ayuso Jr.

He has been on the run for more than six months, but tonight wanted man Vildo Westby is in police custody. Westby was the prime suspect in the murder of HIV/Aids activist Felix Ayuso Junior, stabbed to death inside his home in San Pedro in February of this year. Police had issued a wanted poster for the murder suspect and Ayuso’s family and residents offered a ten thousand dollar reward. Shortly after the killing, Westby skipped across the border to Mexico.  It wasn’t until this week that he was picked up by Mexican authorities.  Ayuso’s family told Ambergris Today that they received an anonymous tip from someone in Los Choapas, Veracruz in Mexico. The informant, who had seen the wanted Interpol poster and Justice for Felix Facebook Page, told the family that Westby was living and working in Los Choapas.  Ayuso’s family immediately traveled to Mexico and spent several days scouting the neighborhood where Westby was reportedly living.  The family disclosed that Westby was working as a baker under a fake name “Alejandro Lorenzo Cruz”. And with the help of the Mexican Police Department, Westby was apprehended on Thursday. They told the Ambergris Today that Westby’s deportation is being processed and expected to be handed over to local authorities in the coming days. The informant was rewarded with thirteen thousand dollars – which was raised through fundraising and donations from family and friends on the Island.
