“The training is very vigorous, for the past four months, they’re at it. We just went to Cancun and did very well. We have  a strong team to bring back some hardware for our country. The training continues. As the team manager, I have to make sure they put in the work and so I check with them every now and then. We have vetting that we do to see their progress and so far they are doing well.”

Akpobodor and Sesay will be participate in the classic body building category in separate weight levels; Greenidge will  compete in the masters and up to eighty kilograms categories; Lovell will feature in the figure category; while Apolonio will be in the bikini fitness. This is Apolonio’s first time to the Games; she hopes to use her toned physique and model experience to bring back a medal:

Annlyn Apolonio, Athlete

“I am completely excited about it. I have been psyching up myself mentally; I have been preparing physically, so I am excited about it.”

Andrea Polanco

“What are your expectations; are you hoping to medal?”

Annlyn Apolonio

“Of course.  I want to bring that gold. I love gold so that is the only thing on my mind.  Preparation has been rigorous, my last competition here was maybe a month and a half ago and since then I have been in the gym committedly. It is hard to fit it in my daily schedule but I have stuck it out and I have an amazing coach. He is a genius – Clayton Greenidge. He took me under his wings and I am grateful for that.”

“Now, for your category, what will the judges be looking for?”

Annlyn Apolonio

“Of course, it is a very feminine category but they also want to see a toned body, they want to see symmetry. They want to be able to know that I know how to model the muscle that I do have.”

Andrea Polanco

“And the modeling aspect of it – how did you prepare for that part?”

Annlyn Apolonio

“I love that aspect of it and I think that is one of the things that drew me into bikini fitness because I still get to have that Miss Belize feel to it. I like that. I like modelling, so it comes off really naturally for me.”

This is Mister Belize Clayton Greendige’s second trip to the Games; he says he is going for gold and he believes he has what the judges will look for.

“The last time I took part in the Central American Championships I placed second in the Masters. So, I think a gold is missing so I think I am going for gold this year.  The judges will look at the overall aesthetics, muscle development, muscularity. But, you see, they have like three rounds – muscularity round which is the compulsory round where you do all the compulsory poses; then the round where they do the comparisons and then the round where you do your choreographed poses along with a song which is called freestyle and I think they still include the turns where they are looking for the symmetry, the shape – they will tell you to turn to your right, the left, the back to see how the body looks from the side, the back and also the front.”
