Will Waste Control Stop Picking Up Garbage? CitCo Says No

Darrell Bradley

And with those payments lingering, will your garbage be picked up? Mayor Bradley says that the trucks will remain on regular service, collecting garbage on all scheduled days. Today, he dispels the report that the north side garbage collection will be cut back because the Belize Waste Control has a cash flow problem. We reached out to the company for a comment but no-one who could shed light on the matter was in office and our calls to manager George Lamb went to voicemail. Here’s what the Mayor had to say about the garbage collection in your neighborhoods:

Darrell Bradley, Belize City Mayor

“I don’t understand that that is the case because I have had no communications with them. I don’t know that there is a situation or any animosity between them and us. I don’t know that there is any situation with any stoppage or slowage of garbage – that is actually something that is made up. I do know that we have a regular, recurrent, annual problem with them which is as a result of the contract itself. We solved that situation with BML because we no longer have that contract with them. We have appropriated the staff. It wouldn’t surprise me that we are in significant arrears but our position is that we have always maintained the collection of garbage; notwithstanding the fact that we have to pay them fifty-one thousand dollars a week. The city council still has to pick up garbage. So, that is not my fault. That people came before me and executed that type of arrangement with them. So, that, I think in relation to our position, we will maintain the regular service of picking up garbage and I am not aware that we have any issues with them.”
