Football Votes Saturday – Who Do the Ministers Want?

The Football Federation of Belize convenes this Saturday for the election of a new president.  With Acting President Marlon Kuylen having stepped aside, the race sees four candidates vying for leadership of the embattled organization.  Depending on who you ask, the majority vote within the F.F.B. congress is a toss-up between two candidates.  We fielded that question to two ministers of government, each a football fanatic in his own right.  When asked whose candidacy he supports, Michael Finnegan says he would like to see Daniel Fabro emerge as the new president.  On the contrary, Bandits owner John Saldivar endorses Sergio Chuc as the ideal man for the job.  What’s interesting is that Saldivar openly questions Finnegan’s involvement in football.

“I honestly, in my heart, believe that Mr. Fabro and Mr. Sharp are a cut from a clean and immaculate and almost impeccable cloth and I would wish them all success.”

Reporter

“Minister, as a club owner with an ardent interest in football affairs, what is your feeling going into this weekend’s F.F.B. elections?”

John Saldivar

“Well I have made my endorsement already and I am endorsing Sergio Chuc  and I’ve stated that publicly and I believe that those that are involved in football and know what is happening in the family of football, will know that Sergio Chuc is the best man for the job.”

Reporter

“We spoke to Mr. Finnegan [and] he says he’s with Fabro and Sharp.”

John Saldivar

“I don’t know Mr. Finnegan’s involvement in sports.”

Immediate Past President Ruperto Vicente, Sergio Chuc, Daniel Fabro and Onan McLean are all contesting the seat at Saturday’s election.
