Glen Bert Reneau

Before that fatal accident on Sunday afternoon, another man lost his life at the same spot. Glen Bert Reneau, a construction worker of Belize City, was heading in the opposite direction – to Dangriga – on Saturday night after nine-thirty when he lost control of his car. The vehicle collided into the bridge a between miles thirty-one and thirty-two in Saint Margaret Village. That accident left two persons injured and today Police gave us the details.

“On Saturday, acting upon information received of a traffic accident between miles thirty-one and thirty-two on the Hummingbird Highway in Saint Margaret Village, police visited the scene. Upon arrival, Glendale Ramos, Police Constable, reported that about nine-fifty p.m. on the said date, whilst he was travelling to Dangriga in a grey Honda Accord which was being driven by Glenn Bert Reneau, thirty-six-years-old, of Neal Penn Road and also accompanied by twenty-one-year-old Maria Ramirez, upon approaching the one lane bridge Reneau lost control of the vehicle and ran into the river. Reneau received serious head and body injuries and died on the spot. Ramirez received injury to the left foot and Ramos received injury to the right hand. Reneau was transported to the Western Regional Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.”

There was a third traffic accident involving multiple vehicles, but fortunately, there was no loss of life.  That accident occurred in the city on Saturday morning.  Lincoln Webster was driving his Toyota Corolla car at the roundabout near Shell Gas station, when he was overtaken by a taxi driven by Phillip Neal. The taxi crashed into the left side of Webster’s car and proceeded to collide into the rear of a car driven by Crusita Castillo. In the impact, Castillo’s vehicle then crashed into a van parked on the street side, while Neal’s taxi rear-ended a Saturn Vue SUV parked on Central American Boulevard and owned by Janel Perera.  Joseph Meighan was washing the SUV and was knocked down.  The taxi came to a stop when it rammed into a lamppost, injuring fruit vendor, Escar Blandon. The sixty-five-year-old taxi driver would later assault P.C. Wilbert Cob, who arrested and escorted him to the police station. Charges are expected to be levied on Neal.
