Guatemalan Resident of Armenia Held Pending Murder Charge

A Guatemalan national, who resides in Armenia Village, remains in police custody tonight pending directives from the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions if charges should be laid on him for the murder of his friend and fellow villager, Carlos Humberto Navarijo Albeño. Navarijo, who is also a Guatemalan, was shot to the chest and leg and his body dumped near a garbage site in the outskirts of the village off the Hummingbird Highway. He was last seen alive on Friday leaving a store, but on Monday afternoon, his body was discovered by a cattle farmer and his four-year-old son. While a motive has not been established, it is believed that a misunderstanding between Navarijo and the detainee led to his killing.
