Motive in Death of German on Ambergris Caye Unknown

Two of the four murders were simultaneously recorded around seven o’clock this morning by investigators in San Pedro Town and Benque Viejo del Carmen, hours before the scheduled police press conference in the city. On Ambergris Caye, the body of German national Raimund Adalbert Kolber was discovered with an injury to the head inside an incomplete structure, exactly one block from where he lived on the island. The fifty-three-year-old has been living in Belize for about five years and was last seen alive on Sunday night at his house by his landlord. He was murdered overnight, but police are unable to say—at least at this time—what motivated his killing.

“Police from San Pedro visited the corner of Pearl Street and Coco Plum Street; it is a two-storey building that is under construction where on the first floor, they found the body of a male person with a large cut wound to the head. The person was identified as Raimund Adalbert Kobler, a fifty-three-year-old German national. The information we received so far is that the last time he was seen alive was last night sometime after ten p.m. at his residence by one of his neighbors. The information we have is that he was last seen alive last night at about ten by the landlord. He was talking to him, he was sitting on the house verandah when the landlord went inside and that was the last time that they saw him. Where he was found is just a block away from where his house is. He has been here for almost five years, we understand, based on the records on his passport—entries and everything.”
