Coastal Road Remains are Male, Older White Man

Alejandro Cowo

The charred, skeletal remains of an unidentified person were discovered off the Coastal Road on Sunday.  Since then the Belize Police Department and forensic pathologist Doctor Mario Estradabran have been working to determine the cause of death and the identity of the individual.  Five days later, investigators have confirmed that the bones are those of a middle-aged Caucasian man.  The remains, says Assistant Superintendent Alejandro Cowo, had been at the location for at least six months prior to being found.  Despite the new information, police are still unable to identify the missing man.  The explanation shared with the media earlier today, however, raises more questions than answers.

“This morning, the pathologist conducted a post mortem examination on the remains and the information that we have received so far is that the bones that were examined, it was that of a male person ranging between forty to fifty years.  He’s a Caucasian male person and appeared to [have been at the site for at least six months], and that the person, according to the indication of the post mortem, had some kind of injury on his left leg.  He was limping, so that can lead us and give us an idea more or less to try and establish if we had this person that was reported missing sometime in the past.”

“Okay, so now you’re just gonna check the record to see if you had a report on that.”

ASP Alejandro Cowo

“Yes, we will check our records to see who has been reported missing since then to see if we could try to establish who is this person.”

According to ASP Cowo, the remains of John Doe show no signs of violence, despite being burnt to a crisp.
