P.U.P. Gags Would-Be Candidates before National Convention

Kareem Musa

The National Executive of the People’s United Party met on Thursday and set a deadline of four p.m. on October twenty-seventh for Party Chairman Henry Charles Usher to receive both a list of delegates from constituency committee chairpersons, and nominations for party leader in writing. Tonight one of those potential challengers, current deputy leader Kareem Musa, has not responded as yet to whether he intends to join Briceño’s slate in his current role or launch a challenge. This is after Briceño went on record following the National Party Council’s meeting at the end of September saying that he had secured Kareem’s support. In the meantime, it is known that Briceño is considering a replacement for Musa as deputy party leader. Today, Musa was coy as he stood behind the Executive’s order of silence issued to its members last Thursday.

Kareem Musa, Deputy Party Leader, P.U.P.

“I hate to say this, but the National Executive passed a resolution asking that no one comments on the National Convention, which includes myself or anybody else in the party, so I will have to reserve my comment till the twenty-seventh of October, if you don’t mind.”

“The Executive speaks for all of us?”

Kareem Musa

“Yes, they do.  Thank you very much.”
