Musa: Titles Don’t Matter, Actions Do

Said Musa

With only a midterm in electoral politics to his credit thus far, is Musa prepared to take the reins of the oldest political organization in Belize?  He admits that his bid for leadership would be symbolic of the confidence and faith that his colleagues have placed in him; however, Musa says that he can also function just as well and serve his constituents without the nominal role of deputy party leader.

“Would you agree that you are just a first term parliamentarian, not even finished your first term.  It is kind of preposterous to think that a first term representative could think of first, challenging Mr. Briceño who is a six-term representative and also a senior man.  He’s been the deputy prime minister of eight years and you don’t have any experience in government whatsoever, because if you were to be running as party leader you are saying I want to be prime minister.  Man, you’ve never even been a minister.”

Kareem Musa

“Well, leadership, because you’re directing that to me to thinking this preposterous level, but leadership has almost nothing to do with what you think about yourself and ninety percent with what others think of you. I can say that I can still do my work and effectively so, without being a deputy leader for the east which, for your information, I get bypassed a lot when it comes to that title.  So it means nothing to me really, because I don’t get involved in anything when it comes to the east and so, at the end of the day I can still get my work done in my area and for the party.”

“What would you say to the base of the party?”

Kareem Musa

“I would say to the base that we have to think outside of the box.  I think we have a party that has come a long way under Mr. Price, but it has also gone backwards a lot in terms of the division within this party and we have to look to new blood.  We cannot stifle new blood, we have to encourage new blood and we have to push on. People see me for who I am.  People don’t judge me based on my father.  Yes, Dean Barrow will come after me with that because that is all he has.  There is no scandal on me that he can bring.  I am my own person and everybody knows, well my father knows, that I disagree on a lot of issues when it comes to him and the decisions he has made and I said that publicly.”

“And the Accommodation Agreement is one of them?”

Kareem Musa

“That is one of them, yes, but that is his legacy, that is not my legacy.  My legacy is left to be built.”

Kareem would eat his father’s head off just to be in power. He can’t do $hit for this country. Let Briceno run this thing and move some of the power away from Belize City. It is senseless to havr so much constituencies in the city just to suit our greedy politicians.

No papa, you are not ready yet. You will still be influenced by your father, that is a fact. You can say anything on TV but behind doors you are just all ears to your father. Yes the PUP has gone backwards a lot in terms of the division within this party because of your dad and Fonseca. If you win the PUP loose. No more MUSA, no more.
