In Cayo, Cotton Tree Man Stabbed and Dumped in River

Isau Perez

There is another murder to report out west. Thirty-three year old Isau Perez of Cotton Tree, Cayo, was discovered dead and floating in the Belize River. The body was located in the vicinity of Banana Bank Resort around eight-thirty this morning. Police say he was stabbed to the chest and throat. There are reports that he was spotted in the Belmopan area prior to his murder.  A post-mortem examination confirmed that he died as a result of these stab injuries. John Carr, a resident of the area, assisted the police when the body was found.

“It seems as if a body floated past Roaring Creek and the police know about it and they are hunting for it so I loan them my boat to go up the river and search for the body. And lo and behold the river’s high, the current’s fast and they found the body within a mile. And they don’t know, but they kinda suspect foul play, but it is too early to really say that. But between one and ten it is probably foul play. But anyway, the police have done a good job and I’ve been a privileged to help them a little bit here at Banana Bank and we’ll get more news on it as it comes out.”

“Brother John briefly tell us what you saw on the body.”

Voice of: John Carr

“Well there was one thing that was very identifiable. It seems as if the person had a missing arm—not from this incident, but maybe something that happened a long time ago, maybe years ago. And there were some other marks that didn’t look quite normal. But the body had been in the water for a couple of days so it was a little hard to tell. But I would image that foul play is involved but we’ll see.”

“What color clothes the person had on?”

Voice of: John Carr

“He had a kinda dark skinned cargo pants and some very nice, almost new tennis shoes—blue and white tennis shoes—and nothing on top.”
