Jail Catches Accused Over Old Drug Fine
Forty-two-year-old Ruben “Bird’’ Heredia is in trouble with the law for a fine of ten thousand dollars which he neglected to pay by July thirty-first for a conviction of drug trafficking. Heredia appeared today for a new matter before Magistrate Michelle Trapp and pleaded guilty to possession of point two grams of cocaine. That’s when the old fine came back to haunt him. The magistrate told Heredia that he has to pay at least two hundred dollars towards the old fine so he can be released. When he could not come up with the money, he was ordered to spend three years imprisonment in default of payment. For the small amount of cocaine, Heredia was fined three hundred dollars and has until mid January, 2018 to pay. Heredia was busted with the cocaine on Dean Street on Wednesday when he was searched by police.
