P.U.P. Says G.S.U. Must Go

The party leader took questions on several national issues, including one that dominated most of last week’s newscasts. We are speaking of the disappearance and return of seventeen-year-old Kelvin Usher, who fled the Gang Suppression Unit after they went shooting into a farm in Lucky Strike village where a marijuana plantation was located. Usher’s family, particularly his father Cameron Usher Senior, has complained that the GSU exercised excessive force and that Kelvin feared for his life when he fled into the bushes and did not come out for several days. While expressing relief at Kelvin’s safe return, P.U.P. leader John Briceño once again made a call for the G.S.U. to be disbanded, stating that it has lost its mandate with the Belizean people.

“I was happy to find out that Kelvin was safe; to me that was the most important thing, that a young man that was just about to start his life, was safe. And thank God that what people were speculating or fearing would happen did not happen, that he was murdered by members of the Police Department, so I am happy for that. But I do believe we are at a tipping point. If something – I shouldn’t say as simple, but something like this, that can trigger young people and the entire nation to be able to be ready to stand up and say enough is enough – I think we are at that tipping point. It’s not about re-purposing, it’s about disbanding the G.S.U. The G.S.U. is completely out of control and until we can disband the G.S.U. and start to concentrate more on community policing, we are not going to go ahead. So this re-purposing, I think it’s all B.S., and the Prime Minister trying to buy some time, to bid time because they know why they want to keep the G.S.U. Because the G.S.U. responds to the political directorate and not the Police Department, so it’s in their interest to keep the G.S.U. alive. But I want to put it on record that when we get into Government, we are going to get rid of the G.S.U. – we have no need to have police that terrorize our people, especially our young men and women in the urban areas, like here in Belize City.”

Amen Jorge, he wants to become PM and would not like GSU to go get him for continued corruption. Don’t forget about the bribe he tried to do to US customs.
