Orange Walkeños to have final say over return of Gapi Vega

The news according to Orange Walk North area representative Gaspar Vega that he is considering running for another term put a cat among the pigeons in the United Democratic Party’s plans. The Opposition People’s United Party is salivating at the prospect, but not so fast. While Vega can run even though he is discredited, Elrington says it is the people of the division who should have the ultimate say.

Wilfred Elrington, Minister of Home Affairs

“I think people are free to decide what they want to do, and it all depends on their constituents, whether the constituents are supportive of them.”

Reporter

“But for the good of the party – is it good for the U.D.P. that Mr. Vega offers himself as a candidate again?”

Wilfred Elrington

Wilfred Elrington

“That is a question that his constituents will have to determine.”

Reporter

“But at some point, the party leadership, just as it did with Miss [Zenaida] Moya; just as it did with the former [representative] Marcel Cardona from Orange Walk East – the party says at some point we have to cut our losses?”

Wilfred Elrington

“Yeah. When the party does that, we know that this is not going to happen – that they’re not going to run.”

Reporter

“Is it time for the party to do that?”

Wilfred Elrington

“That is not my position but it is not a matter that I have spent time on. To be very candid with you, there are so many allegations, and as you know, I am under so much pressure that I hardly have time to deal with other people’s issues. But the democratic process must be allowed to have its way, and ultimately all politics is local; so that it will depend on the people in Orange Walk as to whether or not they think it is prudent for them to elect Gaspar Vega – and I think it would be presumptuous of people like me who don’t live in Orange Walk to interfere in that kind of thing or express a view.”

Reporter

“But do you support it, sir? I don’t think you really answered that question – do you support it?”

Wilfred Elrington

“If I support his aspiration to want to run? I can’t disagree with that, he’s free to do that. He is a Belizean and he is entitled to offer himself for office.”

Reporter

“But he is inked with a very tainted brush. Mr. Vega is seen as a symbol of misfeasance, let us be kind, in public office; that is not a brush you want to be painted with, I imagine?”

Wilfred Elrington

“Actually, that is a brush that most people that hold that position are tainted with – most people that have held the position of Minister of Natural Resources.”

Reporter

“But [inaudible] for that reason?”

Wilfred Elrington

“You say it. Not me.”

Jackass! This only reinforces the mentality I have about you and the entire UDP, “By Any Means Necessary.” I’ve used this quote before when referring to the UDP. You all will turn your heads to the most hideous things to stay in power. Also, let’s say that Vega has some REAL INCRIMINATING STUFF ON A LOT OF YOU, INCLUDING THE PRIME MINISTER.

  2. Marwaione says:

In his heart Elrington knows the man should not run but since they have all done the same, he doesn’t want to say it publicly.
