Police minister does not support corruption, but not about to abandon a friend

Elodio Aragon Jr.

Gapi Vega, in recent times, has become a pariah within his own party, causing a wider chasm to drawn between aspiring leaders Patrick Faber and John Saldivar.  The two have been engaged in a social media exchange, taking sides on the issue of corruption within the U.D.P.  But what’s Aragon’s position on his colleagues?

“Isn’t that where the line in the sand is drawn for the U.D.P. insofar as the Deputy Prime Minister and Deputy Party Leader Patrick Faber has said that he does not support corruption and he makes a sort of veil suggestion that if you support Mr. Vega you are supporting that.”

Elodio Aragon Jr., Area Rep., OW East

“You have to ask that to Patrick Faber himself, personally what he means in regards to that.  I can only tell you about and of Mr. Aragon and I will tell you that I have never supported corruption and I will not, but there’s also personal things in terms of friendship.  If you do something bad, I don’t support that but that doesn’t mean that I will hate you as a person, as an individual, you know.  I hold no grudge to nobody.  I always believe in life you have to answer for your actions and that’s about it.  But apart from that you’re a human being too, and somebody I know.”

“But a political party is a joint enterprise and the fact is that right now Mr. Vega is hurting the U.D.P. brand.  The U.D.P. brand is a brand built on, they say, integrity and propriety in public life.  Mr. Vega in the public mind is the antithesis of this, so at some point you have to make a call and say, hear what, I noh gwein down with that.”

Elodio Aragon Jr.

“You know, in politics you have to be real and yes, whatever affects one member of this party it shadows over others, definitely.  We are not here to say that the United Democratic Party is a perfect party.  No.  There are issues there, but when you compare the United Democratic Party with the PUP the difference is as clear as night and day.”
