Teenager Raped in San Pedro; Suspect Charged

Lyndon Flowers

Lyndon Dean Flowers is accused of the rape of a fourteen-year-old girl on Ambergris Caye in July. Today, he was read charges alongside his attorney Oscar Selgado in the court of Magistrate Carlon Mendoza. According to the teenager, Flowers raped her on the third of July, but she was afraid to report the matter because he threatened to kill her if she told her mother. No plea was taken and the court prosecutor raised formal objections. He cited potential prejudice to the case because the defendant knows where the child lives and may interfere with the witness. Flowers, the prosecutor says, is at risk to commit further offenses if let out on bail, and is on record with a threat of death to his accuser.  Despite Selgado’s submissions that Flowers is not at risk to either flee or interfere, Magistrate Mendoza expressed concern about the age of the victim, and as a result denied bail and remanded Flowers to the central prison until his next appearance on October twenty-seventh, 2017.
