American Living in Belize Pleads Guilty to Drug Possession

Sloane Breaux

A Belizean-American couple and their visiting friend were read drug charges after a police search of their Caye Caulker cabana on Tuesday afternoon. Twenty-four-year-old Sloane Breaux; his wife, twenty-three-year-old Catherine Martinez; and thirty-five-year-old Christopher Shroyer, were jointly arraigned before Acting Chief Magistrate Sharon Frazer for possession of utensil used for smoking controlled drugs, specifically a three-and-a-half inch pipe, and for possession of two point nine grams of cannabis found inside a room. Breaux was separately charged for possession of three point eight grams of cannabis found in Breaux’s pants pocket. Ultimately, Breaux took the rap for both charges, pleading guilty. The utensil charge was then withdrawn from Martinez and Shroyer, leaving them free to go. Breaux was fined three hundred dollars and cost of court for the cannabis found in his pants; two hundred dollars for the cannabis found in the room, and a further five hundred dollars for the pipe. Two of the fines are due at the end of September and the other at the end of November. Default will mean a total of ten months in jail.
