Body Missing after Fatal Beating Observed along Barracks
Belize City police are investigating what appears to be a murder at sea. Shortly after one o’clock this afternoon, officers were summoned to an area on Princess Margaret Drive near St. Anthony’s Trading Company where a report was made that an unidentified person was badly beaten and tossed into the murky waters a short distance away from the shoreline. According to an employee of the adjacent Fisheries Department, he observed a number of men inside a boat hitting another man repeatedly with what appeared to be a paddle, before throwing him overboard. The eyewitness says that he saw the victim gradually going under and did not resurface. The men on the boat then sped off in a southward direction. That’s when a call was made to police. They responded promptly and several officers began diving the muddy waters in an attempt to retrieve the body. Coastguard personnel were later called to the scene and after several attempts at locating the submerged body, the divers came up fruitless. It is believed that the body of the unnamed man may have drifted in the direction of the flow of water. News Five will continue to follow this developing story.
