Rural South Rep: San Pedro Murders ‘Drug-Related’

Manuel Heredia Jr.

There have been quite a few murders in San Pedro over the past week, including several shootings. Last Wednesday night, Scott Charles was shot multiple times inside his home in the Bay Side area of San Pedro Town, as he responded to a knock at the front door to his house.  He died the following day at the K.H.M.H.  By Sunday afternoon, his friend, Armando Lopez was executed inside Winner’s Spot, a bar on Barrier Reef Drive. But even before these two homicides, on August twelfth in the San Pedrito area of the island, Christian Espat allegedly opened fire on a group of men at the Easy Does It A and A Woodwork Shop. Lloyd Tyndall was shot multiple times to the abdomen and left leg and remains in a critical condition at the K.H.M.H. and two primary school children were also injured to the buttocks and hand. Police have not been able to ascertain a motive for the crime, but today, area representative Manuel Heredia Junior said pointblank that the murders are drug-related.

“They are taking serious measures as to make sure that we can combat those illegal guns that are on the streets. But all of this is drug-related; there is no doubt about that. I was born and grown over there and I know that it is drug-related. But no matter what they have dispatched a team on San Pedro, a very high rank team, to look at the situation. They are already making sure that we can clean the island as much as possible and they are increasing the number of police officers that will be based in San Pedro after this.”
