Why Did G.O.B. Refuse to Waive Visa Fees for Visiting Blind Chinese Performers?

Is the Taiwanese Embassy meddling in the affairs of government?  It’s a suspicion that many in the Belize Chinese Association are grappling with tonight, reportedly following a decision by the Barrow administration not to waive a sum of sixty-six thousand dollars in visa fees for a visiting group of thirty-three visually impaired Chinese performers.  The group of children and young adults is en route to Belize via Panama for a brief visit during which they are scheduled to perform what is referred to as the “Dance of a Thousand Hands” on Sunday, before spending a few days enjoying the Jewel.  While a request had been made to write off the fees, since it is believed that the same courtesy was extended to the Khatak Ballet, a group of Indian performers who also visited the country recently, that application has been denied.  There are a few members of the Chinese community who are of the impression that Panama’s recent defection from its alliance with Taiwan may be the reason behind the refusal to waive the fees.  News Five will continue to follow this story.
